Barcelona might have had a difficult time getting rid of the unwanted stars so far in the transfer market. But the club are slowly making progress, with the contract termination of Samuel Umtiti being the start.
According to Javi Miguel, Barça are closing in on sanctioning the departure of another player in the form of Alex Collado. The youngster has received the green light to leave as part of the club’s plans to trim the squad and reduce the salary mass ahead of the new season.
As per the report, Barcelona have informed Collado of their desire to offload him on Monday. The youngster is now free to join Las Palmas this summer, as he looks to kickstart a new career elsewhere.
A product of the famed La Masia youth academy, Collado had always shown immense potential but was never able to establish himself in the senior team. The player has had to spend his time out on loan the past couple of seasons, with his most recent stint coming with Elche.
A versatile player, Collado’s creative prowess could prove to be useful for a Las Palmas side looking to impress, after gaining promotion back to the top-flight this year.
One would expect the 24-year-old to become a vital cog in the club’s attacking unit, especially under the tutelage of Garcia Pimienta, a manager that knows the player well.
As for Barcelona, they are unlikely to financially benefit from Collado’s sale, but they are likely to reserve a future sell-on fee. His move to Las Palmas, though, could come as a surprise, as the youngster was reportedly in advanced talks with Real Betis recently.
But even then, Barcelona were not in a position to make anything out of the deal. Instead, they will now focus on getting rid of the remaining unwanted players in the team, including the likes of Sergino Dest, Ferran Torres, and even Franck Kessie.
