Days after it emerged that Barcelona had agreed a deal for SC Freiburg wonderkid Noah Darvich, the club have officially confirmed the 16-year-old winger’s capture today.
“FC Barcelona and SC Freiburg have reached an agreement on the transfer of the German midfielder for €2.5 million and a contract until 30 June 2026. The termination clause will be €1 billion,” the official statement from the club read.
Just 16 years of age, Darvich had performing exceptionally for SC Freiburg’s Under-17 setup, which even earned him a breakthrough into their Under-19 side despite his age.
Notable clubs across Europe had taken an interest in the teenager’s potential but it is Barcelona that have clinched his signing.
The German wonderkid landed in Barcelona earlier today to complete his medicals and sign his contract, following which his signing has been confirmed by the club.
Barcelona will pay Freiburg a transfer fee of €2.5 million while there will also be a variable component worth €5 million as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.
As confirmed in the statement, Darvich will be signing a three-year contract with the Catalans and will have a mammoth €1 billion release clause in his contract, which serves to indicate how highly Barcelona rate him.
The 16-year-old will straightaway be a part of the Barça Atletic side and not feature in the lower youth categories, another indicator of his potential.
If he lives up to the promise, it might not be long before the German youth international is knocking on the first-team doors at the Catalan club.
