Barcelona closely tracking 20-year-old Bundesliga wonderkid

We are well and truly into the new season, with Barcelona currently standing third in the La Liga table, three points behind leaders Real Madrid.

Despite the strong team, Barça have shown problems that must be addressed in the near future, including the lack of depth in the creative department.

The injury of Pedri, coupled with summer departures have left Barcelona with limited options in the creative unit. That means the club may have to consider signing new players at the end of the season.

Barcelona keeping track of Florian Wirtz

One of the players Barcelona are currently tracking in the market is Florian Wirtz, the German whizkid plying his trade with Bayer Leverkusen.

Wirtz was a hot prospect in the summer, with the player being closely linked with a move to a top European club. However, he ended up remaining at Leverkusen, in order to continue his growth.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are keeping track of Wirtz and have even taken note of his performances for Leverkusen this season.

The young attacking midfielder has been involved in seven goals in all competitions so far, playing a key role in helping Die Werkself start the Champions League campaign on a very positive note.

Wirtz likely to cost a fortune

As mentioned earlier, Florian Wirtz opted to remain at Bayer Leverkusen in the summer despite widespread interest from foreign clubs.

Although Wirtz has declared himself as a Barcelona fan in the past, the attacker’s long-term contract at Leverkusen means he is likely to cost a fortune.

At just 20, Wirtz has a strong future ahead of him, and given his growth trajectory in the Bundesliga, the player is likely to cost somewhere in the region of €100 million.

Leverkusen as a club have also been quite successful recently and have strong balance sheets, meaning the club will be in a position to hold out for a fortune, should they offload the German next summer.

Barcelona, therefore, are unlikely to make a move for Wirtz anytime soon, much like their other targets in the market such as Luis Guilherme.
