After an injury ordeal, Florian Wirtz appears back to be at his best and his thriving in the Bayer Leverkusen outfit managed by Xabi Alonso.
The German international has already been directly involved in 14 goals in 14 games this season (5G, 9A), helping Die Werkself to the top end of the Bundesliga table.
Barcelona very much interested
Barcelona have been admirers of Wirtz’s talents for a long time now and continue to hold their interest in the 20-year-old wonderkid.
Heading into the summer of 2024, reports suggest that the Catalans have made the Bayer Leverkusen sensation one of their top targets.
Given his technical quality, versatile nature, and ability to score and create goals, the 20-year-old appeals to the Barcelona staff.
However, the La Liga champions will face competition from top teams like Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich, while Chelsea are also keen.
Bayer Leverkusen aware and unfazed

Now, Mundo Deportivo’s Gabriel Sans is reporting that Bayer Leverkusen are very much aware of Barcelona’s interest in Wirtz, but are not fazed by the developments.
The Bundesliga giants have the 20-year-old tied down to a long-term contract until the summer of 2027, which puts them in a great position as far as any transfer negotiations would be concerned.
Furthermore, Bayer Leverkusen value Wirtz around €80-€100 million, a figure that appears to be well out of reach of Barça’s hands given their financial situation.
The Catalans themselves are aware that Wirtz is an unviable option for them at this point and that they are not in any position to start or enter a bidding war for him.
However, Wirtz’s favouritism towards Barcelona could work in their favour, although finances will dictate any move.
