Barcelona academy graduate wants to continue at club does not rule out loan: “Already have experience”

After a bright pre-season, Barcelona’s young sensation, Fermin Lopez has gradually become an important member of the first team for coach Xavi Hernandez.

The 20-year-old spoke in an interview with EFE (h/t Mundo Deportivo) recently, opening up about his season thus far and ambitions going forward.

The Spaniard expressed his desire to continue in Barcelona, but did not rule out a loan down the line, stating:

“I want to continue at Barcelona, but if I have to go out on loan, I already have experience and I hope it will work out and I can return.”

Touching upon the injury of Gavi, who is set to miss the remainder of the season with a tear of his ACL, Fermin acknowledged it was a really tough blow, claiming:

“Gavi and I have always lived together at La Masia and the fact that we are not together on the pitch is sad. The first days were a bit difficult for him because football and Barcelona are everything to him.”

Fermin Lopez spent last season on loan at Linares, but managed to exceed all expectations on his return. Commenting on the huge contrast in his previous two season, he commented:

“When I went on loan to Linares I thought I would not come back. It is a dream I am fulfilling. I am very happy with the opportunities the coach is giving me and I must continue working for next year and the years to come.”

Barcelona’s midfield sector arguably boasts the most talent, as competition is higher than ever.

When asked to express his thoughts on the competition he faces with his colleagues in the midfield, the Spaniard admitted his age and inexperience do not lead to regular starting opportunities, but he is always in search of improvement.

“Xavi considers us all important and I have very good teammates in my position. It’s normal to have fewer opportunities sometimes, but I’m young and I have to take advantage of my opportunities and learn from my teammates,” he said.

Fermin went on to claim this was the best moment of his career due to the opportunities with the first team. However, he acknowledged Barcelona is a demanding club and one must always stay on their toes.

“I am probably at the best moment in my career. Getting to the first team is not easy at all, and if I am here it is because I am doing well.

“From the club, they gave me confidence but you never know what decisions they may make tomorrow because in Barcelona you always have to be at the highest level,” he remarked.
