Former Chelsea manager not offered to Barcelona as Xavi replacement – Romano

Barcelona are immersed in a thorough search for a new manager, as they look to replace Xavi Hernandez in the coming summer.

The Catalans have found no shortage of options in the market, with the club being heavily linked with the likes of Hansi Flick, Julian Nagelsmann, and Imanol Alguacil, among others.

Antonio Conte was another name recently linked with Barcelona. It was reported that the Catalans were offered the chance to hire the Italian manager, who was reportedly open to the job.

However, in a recent update, Fabrizio Romano has denied this speculation, clarifying that Antonio Conte was not offered to Barcelona.

Conte, who has remained a free agent since quitting Tottenham in March 2023, is certainly in search of a new project.

Barcelona, to that end, appears to be an interesting project. It was even reported that Conte was ready to take on this project and take over as the head coach this summer.

But it seems no such offer was made to Barcelona, who themselves were unlikely to consider a move for the Italian mastermind.

Is Conte a good option for Barcelona?

Antonio Conte brings a wealth of experience to the table, having managed clubs such as Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan, among others.

The Italian also has a proven track record, having won several league titles. However, he does have a temperamental personality, which often does not go well with players and boards.

Barcelona, to that end, require someone who can be intellectually cohesive with the rest of the board members, along with sporting director Deco.

Not to mention, Conte’s defensive style of play will go against Barcelona’s tactical philosophy. As such, the Catalans would be better advised to go after other alternatives in the market.
