Manchester City superstar wants to play in Spain amid Barcelona and Real Madrid interest

One of the most dangerous strikers in the game currently, Erling Haaland has firmly established himself as a lethal goal-machine in the past few years.

After having overgrown clubs like RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund, the Norwegian superstar earned his big move to Manchester City in 2022 and has not looked back since.

But it all could have turned out very differently for the 23-year-old, for he could have signed for both Barcelona and Real Madrid that summer.

Indeed, both the La Liga behemoths were interested in Haaland when he was leaving Dortmund. In fact, reports suggest that the player had even given his ‘yes’ to Barça, but the financial situation made the deal impossible.

Haaland wants Spain again

Now, though, both Barcelona and Real Madrid are once again hot on the trails of Haaland, with the two clubs hoping to lure him away from Manchester City in 2025.

And SPORT reports that the Norwegian hitman would be very much open to a move for he dreams of plying his trade in Spain.

Haaland and his entourage have had a clear premise for some time: when the time comes, the Norwegian footballer wants to swap City and the Premier League for La Liga.

The Norwegian, in several interviews, has stated that he loves the way of life in Spain and would like to compete in La Liga. Based on the wishes of his son, Haaland’s father Alf-Inge, he has been working for months to make it happen.

Real Madrid or Barcelona for Haaland?

Real Madrid’s lack of a top No. 9 following the exit of Karim Benzema gave them an advantage over Barcelona who have Robert Lewandowski.

Contacts had been maintained with the capital club by Haaland’s father and agent, Rafaela Pimenta, but as soon as it became clear that Kylian Mbappe would be joining, it cast doubts about a move.

Meanwhile, contacts have also been maintained with Barcelona, with Joan Laporta being aware of all movements surrounding the striker through Mino Raiola first and now Pimenta.

The Barça leaders have been working to get their economic situation in order and boost the income with the remodelling of Camp Nou before considering any big move.

Laporta wants Haaland, but can’t afford him at the moment. Lewandowski will stay at least until 2025. After that, anything is possible as long as Haaland is on the market.

That is a strong possibility with Manchester City set to face sanctions for FFP breaches which could see them get hit with a heavy financial penalty and a heavy loss of points, at best, or even a possible relegation to the Championship.

Neither Real Madrid nor Barça are currently in firm negotiations with Haaland, but his entourage is waiting for both.

The Norwegian is young and both his father and agent are convinced that sooner or later one of Spain’s giants will make a move.
