FC Barcelona have reestablished themselves as one of Europe’s top contenders following a dominant 2024–25 season, and they’ve continued to build on that success with the signing of Marcus Rashford. Following the arrival of the English international, club president Joan Laporta has made a final decision on Barcelona’s summer transfer window.
Rashford had long been on Barca’s radar, especially with the club looking to bolster its left-sided attack. With the forward no longer in Manchester United’s plans, the Catalan giants managed to secure him on loan — aided by Rashford’s willingness to accept a significant salary reduction.
In an interview with Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Laporta spoke openly about the club’s summer objectives. “Our main focus and obsession was to keep last season’s team together, because it was historic. We wanted to maintain that team spirit with the players we had, which is why we didn’t even consider many of the offers we received,” Laporta admitted.
The president also touched on manager Hansi Flick’s requests and how the club responded: “The coach asked us for more firepower up front. With Marcus Rashford, we have that. And Deco’s vision of what could happen with Marc-Andre (ter Stegen) was key in strengthening the goalkeeper position very well. Joan Garcia is having spectacular training sessions and will win over the Barca fans.

When asked whether Barça would continue to pursue new signings this summer, Laporta was unequivocal: “As of now, no. We have a strong squad, and the coach wants to bring in some players from Barça Atletic (B team) into the first-team dynamic, but no further signings are expected at this moment.”
With Rashford accepting a 30% salary cut and Joan Garcia arriving for €25 million, Barcelona appear to be closing their books on the transfer market. Financial Fair Play regulations in La Liga remain a major hurdle, and further signings would complicate player registration, leading Laporta to shut the door on any more arrivals.
