Who are Investcorp? Prospective AC Milan buyers

AC Milan could soon have new owners

If the rumours are to be believed, AC Milan could have new owners pretty soon.

The Rossoneri are well in the 2021/22 Serie A title fight as they seek to return to Europe's elite and could be bolstered by Investcorp, who are said to be in talks with the club over a potential change of ownership.

Here's what you need to know about the company eyeing the purchase of one of Italy's most historic football teams.

Are Investcorp buying AC Milan?

The Bahrain Embassy have confirmed Investcorp are in talks with Milan owners Elliott Management over a $1.1bn deal.

Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, a member of Bahrain's royal family, is said to be involved in negotiations. He has previously run for FIFA elections and his family have an estimated net worth of $5bn.

Will Investcorp fund AC Milan signings?

While it remains to be seen whether or not the new owners will fund the club in the transfer market, early reports sound promising.

One story from Corriere dello Sport suggests Investcorp are already thinking about the signings they may make if they were to take over. That could mean four or five new players are brought to the red side of San Siro in the summer transfer window, with Lille's Sven Botman one heavily reported target.

The current management are continuing with work as normal. It's expected that technical director Paolo Maldini and sporting director Ricky Massara will remain in their roles, but the future of CEO Ivan Gazidis is a little more complicated.

Who currently owns AC Milan?

Milan are currently owned by Elliott Management Corporation, who took over as the official proprietor of the club in July 2018 with 99.93% of stakes. It's an American investment management firm and one of the largest activist funds in the world.
