Sadio Mane will “regret” leaving Liverpool and the Reds should try harder to keep the talented Senegal forward, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor.

Mane looks destined to join Bayern Munich after deciding against signing a new contract at Anfield.

The 30-year-old, who has scored 120 goals in 269 games for the club has now jetted off on holiday. His future has been left in the hands of his agent Bjorn Bezemer.

Talks between Liverpool and Bayern are set to resume after the Reds turned down two bids for Mane.

The latest was said to be worth up to £30m, but £6.5m 0f that was in add-ons. Liverpool rejected both approaches as they didn’t meet their valuation which is around £42m.

Mane will also demand a huge salary. Fabrizio Romano claims Mane has already agreed personal terms in principle with the Bundesliga champions.

The Mirror have claimed Mane wanted a four-year deal worth around £400,000-a-week to commit his future to Liverpool.

Mane ‘wants the money he feels he deserves’

And former Aston Villa star Agbonlahor thinks that potential outlay of around £83m would have been worth it for Liverpool.

“I would keep Mane, to be honest,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider. “What he offers the club, what he offers the team, I would keep him.

“Liverpool might not want to break that wage structure. They won’t be held to ransom. It will be interesting to see.

“When a player wants out so much, it’s hard to stop them, it’s hard to keep them around.

“Maybe it’s best for both parties. Mane wants to try a different league, he wants the money he feels he deserves and Liverpool don’t want to pay it.

“There shouldn’t be any hard feelings but the way he has pushed it through, he’ll probably regret it because he had a great time there.”
