Jesse Marsch delivers beautiful message to Leeds fans and hails ‘special team’ after home victory

Jesse Marsch of Leeds

Jesse Marsch says he ‘loves it’ at Leeds after his team beat Chelsea 3-0 at home to make it seven points for the season so far.

Brenden Aaronson, Rodrigo and Jack Harrison all got on the scoresheet for Leeds as they picked Chelsea off in West Yorkshire. Aaronson capitalised on an Edouard Mendy mistake to give the Whites the lead 33 minutes in.

Rodrigo then headed a Harrison set piece past Mendy, before the Spaniard turned provider in the second half. He put the ball in Harrison’s path and the winger volleyed home to ensure Leeds ended Chelsea’s hopes of a comeback.

During a post-match interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, Marsch sent a touching message to the Leeds faithful.

“I love it here, I love our fans, our club. You have to enjoy it, this business is not easy,” the manager said.

“I felt like I belonged from day one. The team has to represent the identity of the club and the fan base. They are never out worked and never out run.

“The more we can build on performances, we can really build something. I wish everyone could see how hard these guys work every day. We have felt it in the inside for months now.

“In this league winning is never easy.”

‘A complete performance’ – Jesse Marsch

In a separate post-match interview with Sky Sports, Marsch added: “It was a complete performance. We had a few different plans on what they [Chelsea] would look like and the guys did a good job of adjusting. We wanted to play with aggression but controlled and we accomplished our goals.

“From the first moment I came here I saw this was a special team. This [win] should mean hunger for us to want to improve.

“Our goal is never to be out run or out worked but also to add to not being out fought and if we can add these things together we can build something. You can see it coming together almost right before our eyes. It’s a good sign but there’s still so much more to do.”

After scoring his first Premier League goal, Aaronson said: “I’ve dreamed about this for a long time and it’s a dream come true and it shows how much progress we have made.”

Aaronson was then told his team had ran far more than their opponents. “It shows who wanted it more,” he said. “The crowd got us pumped up and everyone was driven.”

Harrison added: “We conducted a really good tactical plan from Jesse and we knew how important it was to come out strong and that set the tone from there.

“Credit to the tactics and production from the team as well. We set the tone today and have to aim for this performance every week. I know it’s difficult but if we have something to aim for that’s the motivation for us.”
