Barcelona veteran did not sustain injury against Viktoria Plzen, could be rested vs Cadiz

A report from SPORT has provided an update on the fitness situation of Barcelona veteran defender Sergi Roberto.

The 30-year-old right-back came off with a knock in the UEFA Champions League clash against Viktoria Plzen earlier this week. Having started the game at right-back and performed impressively, Roberto made way for Gerard Pique at half-time.

It raised concerns over his situation given that he has had a terrible history of injuries. However, the report from SPORT allays those fears, claiming that the La Masia graduate has not sustained any injury.

Tests were carried out on Thursday to assess Roberto’s condition and it has been found that there is no serious injury and the versatile defender is dealing with minor discomfort in his adductor.

It is also stated that the discomfort has nothing to do with the injury Roberto suffered last season which required him to undergo surgery, leading to him missing almost the entirety of the campaign.

It is further claimed that his substitution against Viktoria Plzen was more out of precaution than anything as manager Xavi Hernandez did not want to risk exacerbating the condition.

While it is possible that he will be fit in time for the weekend La Liga clash against Cadiz, there is a good chance that Roberto will be rested for the game to avoid any risk and ensure that he is fully fit for the Champions League encounter against Bayern Munich next week.
