Frank McAvennie has suggested James Forrest could be replaced by Liel Abada in the Celtic starting lineup.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said Abada is a better option for Ange Postecoglou at the moment.
Forrest scored the opening goal in the Celts’ narrow victory over Hearts on Saturday (22 October).
The 31-year-old scored a hattrick in the Hoops’ 6-1 win over Hibernian last weekend (15 October), taking him to 100 goals for the Parkhead club.
Speaking to club media (17 October), Postecoglou hailed Forrest as “one of the greats” and insisted he believes the Parkhead veteran can still contribute to the team.
The winger has featured in eight games for Postecoglou across all competitions so far this season.
The Green and Whites manager has favoured 21-year-old Abada who has featured in 16 games for the Glasgow club.
McAvennie claimed that despite starting at the weekend, the manager will favour Abada for upcoming games.
“Abada is younger, he is fitter,” he told Football Insider.
“James has shown that he can do it. I think Abada is learning everyday and the manager said he is willing to learn.
“James came in, scored a hattrick and then scored again. It is good to see that response to Abada coming in. I am delighted with it.“

Forrest made 32 appearances for the Glasgow club across all competitions last season.
In those outings he scored four goals and provided five assists.
