Arsenal eyeing a summer swoop for out-of-favour Barcelona starlet

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal are looking to raid Barcelona in the coming summer for the services of Eric Garcia.

The former Manchester City starlet was a target for the north London giants during the winter transfer window. But a move did not materialise due to various reasons.

Arsenal, though, are hoping that they can secure the services of the Spaniard at the end of the season, following his woeful 2022/23 campaign.

Garcia has indeed fallen out of favour at Barça this season. With new signing Andreas Christensen enjoying an excellent campaign, coupled with the performances of Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo, the former Man City star has no prominence in Xavi’s plans.

Garcia’s struggles have led to speculations over his future, especially with Barcelona on the verge of securing a deal to sign Inigo Martinez from Athletic Club.

There are even reports that suggest Barça could cash in on both Eric Garcia and the experienced Jordi Alba in the coming summer, in an attempt to balance the books.

That is where Arsenal come into the fray. The Gunners have enjoyed a successful campaign in the league so far, but they require depth and reinforcements in the defensive unit.

Jakub Kiwior was roped in during the January transfer window, but the young Pole lacks experience at the highest level of football. Garcia, to that end, could offer much more competition to the likes of Gabriel Magalhaes, Rob Holding and William Saliba next season.

Barcelona, for their part, could welcome the exit of Garcia as it would help them not only generate fresh revenue but also make space for Inigo Martinez.
