The departure of Sergio Busquets from Barcelona marks the end of an era in the history of the Catalan institution.
The defensive midfielder was one of the last pieces standing from Pep Guardiola’s legendary side and his departure means that the youngsters at the club are now by themselves at the deep end.
Yet, if the team’s run this season is anything to go by, Xavi Hernandez has some serious talent to work with. Pedri Gonzalez, Alejandro Balde, Gavi, Ronald Araujo, and Frenkie de Jong represent the team’s core for the years to come and will be put to the ultimate test next season.
Come June, Barcelona will undoubtedly look to make some solid additions. However, it is clear that the administration wish to centre the plans around the existing core, and their priority chart shows the same.
According to reports from Alfredo Martinez, there is a lot of optimism in Barcelona over receiving La Liga’s approval of the feasibility plan. Once the official confirmation arrives, the first objective will be to register the new contracts of Gavi and Ronald Araujo as confirmed by the club’s economic president last night.
“To first register the players we already have. Then, signings. In order for any player to come, there must be departures too,” Eduard Romeu said in a recent interview when asked about the club’s plan of action after receiving the green light.
The midfield prodigy was registered successfully with the first team earlier this season but a fierce rebuttal from La Liga saw his new contract annulled overnight. Meanwhile, the registration of Araujo’s new deal has also been put on hold given the tight FFP situation.
This time, however, the Catalans do not expect any hurdles in the process. After all, La Liga’s green light on the feasibility plan would imply that the Blaugranas have sufficient space on the FFP front.
